The Four E's and the Ideal Graduate

The Residential Living and Learning's Four E model aligns with the OSU Four Competencies (Professional Preparedness, Engages Citizenship, Ethical Leadership and Personal Responsibility) to build the Ideal Graduate.

Below are strategies ResLife uses to create an impactful Residential Experience for each resident. The vision is for Cowboys to thrive.

Engage  |  Educate  |  Embrace  |  Empower

Educate...

is developing the faculties and powers of our students through holistic instruction.

Strategies for Educate include the following:

  • Share information regarding available resources, services on campus, upcoming events, meetings through create bulletin boards, newsletters and GroupMe chats.
  • Hold the first floor meetings during the first week of the semester.
  • Host tutoring opportunities, create informal study groups, offer training session on how to live with others, and a variety of wellness programs.

Engage...

is facilitating interaction with their peers, staff, faculty, and other contributing members of the campus community and beyond. The quality of involvement and quality of effort directed toward activities lead to persistence and completion.

Strategies for Engage include the following:

  • Host in-hall social programs and events, including Late Night (the premier social event held three times per semester).
  • Pete's Pet Posse for pet therapy (five locations in the halls per week)
  • Take 2 Program. Community mentors take residents to events across campus.
  • Hold three intentional conversations per resident per semester

Empower...

is creating a culture where students develop the skills to voice and share their thoughts and ideas and pursue leadership opportunities (Residence Hall Association, community mentors, ambassadors, desk assistants and other student job positions) within the campus community.

Strategies for Empower include the following:

Embrace...

is creating an environment within the campus community where everyone is accepted and can make a positive contribution, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Strategies for Embrace include the following:

  • Everyone belongs. See Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Intentional programming and events so everyone can participate.
  • Volunteer initiatives such as the Change Agents program where residents find projects to volunteer as a group.
