Free Classes Designed for You

As a resident in the apartment neighborhoods (Brumley, Demaree, Prosser, Stevens, West, Williams), you are welcome to attend the Adult Programs. You must complete registration before you attend classes. Afterward, attend as many classes as you want. 

 

Learn from current and retired faculty, graduate students and students training to teach English as a second language. Earn certificates for attendance and participation at the end of each semester.

Classes are held at the Family Resource Center (719 N. Walnut St.) starting August18. 

 

  • Book Club with Dr. Ramsey
    • Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m.
    • English proficiency: Intermediate
    • Read and discuss stories and novels. This class helps build vocabulary, reading comprehension and confidence in sharing opinions. This course is great for learners who enjoy books and want to improve their speaking and listening skills through discussions. 
  • Everyday English with Lidya 
    • Mondays from 11 a.m. to noon
    • English proficiency: Basic
    • Enhance your English skills in a friendly, supportive environment. This course is designed for anyone wanting to improve or refresh their English. Through engaging lessons on practical topics like community life, the workplace and travel, you’ll learn useful vocabulary, phrases and communication techniques. Gain confidence and fluency to navigate daily conversations and real-life situations with ease
  • Connections with Kimber
    • Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m.
    • English proficiency: Basic
    • Connect with others and practice your English by sharing traditions, values and memories. You will learn different communication skills to encourage healthy relationships. Come have a cultural exchange, learn more about American culture and share about your home culture.
  • Grammar Class with Elaura 
    • Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
    • English proficiency: Advanced
    • Strengthen your understanding of English grammar and sentence structure. This class is ideal for advanced learners who want to improve writing and speaking accuracy, and prepare for academic or professional settings.
  • Leadership with Dr. Frost
    • Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon
    • English proficiency: Advanced
    • This class strengthens your leadership and communication skills. Class discussions will follow the book: The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. This class is great for learners aiming to grow professionally and personally or take on leadership roles in their community.
  • English with Ty
    • Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
    • English proficiency: Basic
    • A supportive class for beginners to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing to build basic English skills. Ty uses fun, practical activities to help learners feel more confident using English in daily life.
  • Presentation and Public Speaking with Ty
    • Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon
    • English proficiency: Intermediate
    • Learn how to speak clearly and confidently in front of others. This class helps with preparing presentations, organizing ideas and using body language and voice effectively. Great for students, professionals or anyone wanting to improve public speaking.
  • Quilting for Beginners with Dr. Self
    • Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • English proficiency: Basic
    • Learn the basics of quilting while practicing English. This hands-on class covers sewing techniques, quilting vocabulary and fun conversation. No experience needed—just a love for crafts and learning together.
